Labang- Bull
Ca Celin- Owner of Carratela they took
Speaking of Labang, the brothers loved him so much, especially Leon. Maria was joining in the enthusiasm, and was brave enough to pet the bull. I'm aware that it's a bull however as I was reading I found it disgusting as the Labang was eating the cud repeatedly. Going back, when Leon talked about Labang, Maria's eyes were filled with joy as she looked at Leon and Listened to him. Then there is Baldo in the corner thinking about how Maria got her name, how it sounds like and wondering if their father will like it.
As the story contintued, Baldo, Maria, and Leon got in the cart, and they were to use Labang to lug them around, which by the way, was completely unnecessary and difficult for them and Labang because they could've taken another carratela to go to their Father's house instead of making the poor bull lug them around, but no! Spoiler alert, it was their Father who planned that all along. He instructed Baldo to use Labang in order to get to their house, which makes the trip longer and more difficult than usual. In addition, if that wasn't bad enough, their Father also instructed Baldo to follow the waig instead of the camino real.
Instead of dealing with their trials, Leon and Maria looked at the stars in the night sky and sang a song that was sang by Leon and his father when they were out in the fields at night, "Sky Sown with Stars", and Maria was able to sing along with him.
When they arrived at their house, Baldo immediately reported to his father. His Father asked if they saw someone with them in the fields, because no one travels through the Waig at night, and Baldo replied that there was no one. He told his father that Maria is very beautiful, and that wasn't afraid of Labang. He told him that she wasn't afraid of the night as they traveled either, instead, she looked at the stars and sang "Sky Sown with Stars" with Leon. His Father didn't say anything if he approved Maria's relationship with Leon, but the fact that there were no rebuttals made when Baldo replied, I think their Father is pleased with Maria; and that's how Leon brought home a 'wife'.

How my Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife
"I looked at Maria and she was lovely. She was tall. Beside my brother Leon, she was tall and very still. Then I went out, and in the darkened hall the fragrance of her was like a morning when papayas are in bloom."

Setting
NagrebcanSummary:
In the first part of the story, Leon and Maria got out of a carratela owned by Ca Celin to meet Baldo, Leon's Brother. Baldo described Maria as a dainty woman. She had the scent of papayas that are in bloom, she had long nails, and in the progression of the story, she had a dress that she took care of by sitting with such poise while she sat in the cart that Labang was carrying.Speaking of Labang, the brothers loved him so much, especially Leon. Maria was joining in the enthusiasm, and was brave enough to pet the bull. I'm aware that it's a bull however as I was reading I found it disgusting as the Labang was eating the cud repeatedly. Moral of the story
The story suggests that one shouldn't give up on their goals, even when they have to take a difficult path to get there. In order to achieve their goal, they must persevere. However, I believe that declaring the tribulations as worth it in order to reach the goal, greatly depends on the person and how they think of such 'worth'.Symbolism
So i had some big brain moments as i was reading and i have thought of some symbolisms along the way.
Maria looking at the stars at night
So this was one of the moment wherein Maria really showed how lovely she is. In the midst of difficulty, she was still able to see the beauty in it. She was positive about things, even if Leon asks her "Why would you think Father would do this", even if she thought that their Father might not like her, even though the road was long and dark.
Leon brought home a wife
When the father was informed about Maria as a person, how she acts and such, he seemed like he approved Maria and Leon's relationship, making Maria part of their family. I don't know if they're married in the first place, or if they were only a young couple because it wasn't said in the story, but when their father knew that she was a keeper, that's when Leon brought home a beautiful woman- inside and out, an ideal woman to be with for the rest of one's life- a wife.
